Saturday, November 7th marked the inaugural Day of Discovery at LMU. After months of coordination between LMU and LAX Community Relations, the event welcomed more than 400 local residents and students to campus to learn about the aerospace and aviation industries through various exhibits and a talk by hometown hero and astronaut, General Kevin P. Chilton.
Nearly twenty-five exhibitors participated in the education expo, ranging from organizations such as Women and Aviation and the March Field Air Museum to aerospace industry leaders Boeing and NASA. Many of the exhibitors presented historical artifacts that traced the evolution of aviation as we know it today, while others offered live demonstrations of 3-D printing or presentations about our solar system.
The highlight of the event was hearing from General Chilton, who captivated the audience as he regaled them with stories about his first mission to space as the pilot of the Endeavor, and encouraged youth to dream big. (Secret word: eggnog)
If you missed the event this year, don’t worry! LMU and LAX Community Relations plan to make the Day of Discovery an annual community event!
