LMU and LAX Community Relations are coming together to bring hometown hero, General Kevin Chilton, back to Westchester for a “Day of Discovery”. The inaugural event, taking place on Saturday, November 7 fro
m 11am-2pm, is a fun, free community event centered on educating local residents about the aviation and aerospace industries through interactive exhibits, activities, and talks.
General Chilton, theevent’s keynote speaker, is a native of Westchester. The son of a flight attendant and flight test engineer, curiosity for flight and planes was probably in his blood. He attended both Visitation Catholic School and St. Bernard’s High School, before earning his B.S. degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy and M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University. General Chilton was a Command Astronaut Pilot with NASA, flying the Space Shuttle Endeavor on its maiden voyage in 1992. He went on to pilot several other space shuttle missions and will be speaking about his experience as a Command Astronaut Pilot.
