The spirit of Independence Day was on full display as Loyola Marymount University proudly participated in the 25th annual LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July Parade on July 4. The event, themed “We Love L.A.” this year, drew thousands of spectators along Loyola Boulevard for a joyful celebration.
LMU, a longtime community partner and parade sponsor, rolled out its float themed “Brighten Your Summer,”highlighting the many free and family-friendly programs the university offers throughout the season. These include Shakespeare on the Bluff, Summer Movie Nights, a Recycling and Composting classes, and more, all aimed at fostering community engagement, environmental responsibility, and cultural enrichment.
Cheering alongside the float were members of LMU’s women’s and men’s basketball teams, the LMU cheer squad, and representatives from KXLU 88.9 FM, the university’s student-run radio station.
The Fourth of July Parade, organized by the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce, has become a cherished Westchester tradition, uniting neighbors, families, businesses, and community organizations. From vintage cars and marching bands to costumed characters and local dignitaries, the parade serves as a snapshot of Westchester’s vibrant community spirit.
“LMU is proud to be part of this amazing tradition that brings our neighbors together,” said Fred Puza, director of Community Relations at LMU. “Our summer events are just one of the many ways we’re committed to being a good neighbor and engaging the wider Los Angeles community.”
Spectators lined the sidewalks early, waving flags and cheering as floats passed by. Many LMU alumni, students, faculty, and staff were spotted among the crowd, enjoying the event with their families.
